Day One
9:00 am Dinosaur Journey
Wander among the exciting exhibits of dinosaur skeletons,
half-size moving dinosaur replicas and view the working
laboratory where scientists preserve and restore fossils.
Discover firsthand how paleontologists work with fossils from
our quarry, and what dinosaurs truly looked like.
10:00 am Colorado National Monument
Nature began sculpting the Monument 350 million years ago.
Explore over 23,000 acres of arched windows, rock spires and
natural monoliths. The 23-mile Rimrock Drive winds along the
edge of slickrock canyons and short trails lead to canyon
overlooks. Allow two to three hours. Begin at the west entrance
from I-70 (Exit 19, Fruita), stop at the Monument Visitor
Center. After the tour, depart via the east entrance to
Broadway, turning right toward downtown Grand Junction.
1:00 pm Downtown Grand Junction
Enjoy a comfortable lunch and fine shopping along the open
downtown mall, a beautiful tree-lined street and walking area,
featuring the largest outdoor sculpture exhibit in Colorado,
"Art on the Corner."
There are over 100 shops and fun restaurants to enjoy. End the
downtown tour with a sweet surprise, a visit to Enstrom Candies.
Entrom's toffee is a third generation Swedish recipe that is
shipped all over the world.
3:00 pm Grand Valley Wineries
The Grand Valley's mild climate is ideal for growing grapes, and
eight local vineyards produce many different varieties to please
any palate. Sample traditional styles such as Chardonnay, Merlot
and Cabernet Sauvignon, or try fruit wines and Honey Wine
(Mead). Tasting rooms and retail sales outlets are open
year-round. Continue on Highway 65 to
I-70 west to Exit 42. We suggest tours and tasting at any 3 of
our 8 wineries; 7 are located in the heart of the orchards and
vineyards of the Palisade area. Allow 2 - 3 hours.
6:30 pm Dining and Entertainment
Choose a restaurant of your choice and a movie or combine the
two and enjoy the dinner theater located downtown.
