This hip, young city grew by 30
percent in the 1900s -- the equivalent of a thousand new
people a week, every week for ten years. Along with the
population growth came three new stadiums (for a record
seven professional sports teams), the second largest
performing arts center in the nation, a new aquarium,
new downtown amusement park, new museums, new convention
center and the complete revitalization of downtown.
Today, downtown Denver is the tenth largest downtown in
America, all centered around the 16th Street Mall -- a
mile long pedestrian promenade lined with outdoor cafes,
clubs and shops. From the hip historic district of LoDo
(where there are 90 brewpubs, music clubs and
restaurants in restored red brick warehouses) to the
trendy shopping at Cherry Creek (the largest and most
varied shopping district between Chicago and San
Francisco) Denver is a mile high -- and climbing.
